Starting Problems

I have been having trouble with my avensis 2.0 d4d starting. i wad told by an auto electrician that because my clutch needs replacing and particles from the fly wheel go into the starter motor that is why the car is not starting. Once the clutch is replaced and the starter is cleaned then it would start as normal is this true.
