Hello

I'm new to the cleica club.

I just got a celica gts with 117k for 2500.00. ive done some things to it ,and It needs a wheel bearing front struts , a slight exhaust leak, and this code causing the check engine light to come on.

this code is for a OCV oil control valve which sends oil to the lifter for the variable timing after the gts hits the 6000 rpm mark.

My engine is missing this power band when that light is on.

Is this a common occurance?

Any ideas on what to do to fix it?

Write ups?

thanks!

I was hoping for some insight , but i guess this is an uncommon code. I'll let you all know what the outcome is.

P1693 = Oil control valve for VVTl close malfunction, and is set when:

Coolant temp is 60 degrees or above, Engine speed is 6000rpm or above and the oil pressure switch is OFF for mote than 1 second.

Areas of trouble could be:

Open or short in oil control valve circuit

Oil control valve

Oil pressure switch

Engine ECU or harness

Diagnosis requires a hand held tester with Toyota software that is able to run active tests on the above
