P1226 is kind of a generic code that says something wrong in fuel system.

Start by having filter changed then probably check fuel injectors for problem if it persist.

P1226 Is a later fault code due to the vintage of the Hiace P1226 cross refers to an older code type of 78/7 "Fuel line malfunction" pointing to an issue with:

High pressure fuel lines

Common rail

Fuel pump

Injector

Fuel pressure discharge valve

EDU ( Injector driver ECU )

Engine ECU

Beyond the obvious of an actual fuel leak, the diagnostics are fairly specialised, you will need a diesel specialist with access to Toyota diagnostic equipment and information or a Toyota dealer.

Did you manage to sort this out?

I have same problem, engine works perfect, idles fine, but if I shift gear to neutral while traveling and/or stop at trafic lights/reduce speed in order to stop without keeping the revs at first once stopped EML comes up and van goes into limp mode.

Hi michael i sold the van as it was as i had spent enough time and money trying to find the fault..anyway the new owner informed me it was the diesel pump at fault and is now running perfectly..hope this helps you in getting yours sorted..regards, lee..

Hi Lee, thanks a bunch for your input on that!

The symptoms in your later van and in my van are similar so definitely I'd ask my mechanic to check the diesel pump. Sorry to be so persistent but is there any chance you could ask the new owner whether he managed to fix the old pump (e.g change the suction control valve) or did he go for anew pump?

Thank you in advance for that!
