Tsport Gearbox - Repair Or Replace?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

It looks like a bearing has gone in the gearbox of my 2002 TSport (has done 90k). The garage have said I have two options: hunt the salvage yards for a replacement or rebuild the current gearbox.

I understand that this is a fairly common problem in the TSport - I was just wondering if folks had an opinion on which I should go for? The mechanic is of the opinion I should go for a replacement but is this not a case of delaying the inevitable?

The problem with a second hand one is that you might very well inherit the same problem a short distance down the road!

You will probably have a transmission/ gearbox specialist near you who could strip and replace the bearings for you, or at least advise you on all your options

I'd suggest sourcing a low milage salvage one taking the overall value of your vehicle into consideration and weighing the costs against an 05 Upwards . To give you an idea my car is 07 and worth about 3000£ with 45,000miles . Garages can be very costly per hour to pay,!!!!!
