Corolla Verso D4D 2.0 Gear Linkage Problems?

hi all,

The wife owns a corolla verso 2.0 d4d 2006,the cars become hard to get into gear.last night i dropped the undertray to the gearbox and sprayed the gear linkages with spray grease,this made 100% improvement until today (the grease must have dried out) and the gears have gone hard to select again.i sprayed a round joint? with the spray grease can this part be replaced?,there seemed to be a lot of play in this part.are the linkages much of a job to replace?,they seem hard to get to.
