Corolla Verso 2008, Parcel Shelf Repair Possible?

Hi I've had my Verso for a few years now and love it. But the retractable Parcel shelf is a nightmare. The spring has locked at full extension, and cant find any way of opening to attempt repair. Is there any way of repairing this? Or bite the bullet and buy a new one? :( Cheers
