Problem With Key/alarm

Hi all, I've new here, had a look on your FAQ's regarding key fobs but it kept redirecting me to the start page I have a problem with the key &/or alarm. The key remote will not open the car anymore however the red light does show when pushing the buttons. I can use the key to open the car manually however the alarm keeps going off. The car starts with the key but the alarm goes on & on, I don't really want to disable the alarm I'd rather fix the key. I read somewhere about key programming?! I was under the impression I would have to go to a locksmith for them to sort me out a new key & electronics (key transponder?!). I have replaced the Battery in the remote but no luck, is there anything else I can do as the above is quite pricey... Thanks :D Regards
