Vvti 1.6 Noisy Start

Morning guys....so 57 model 1.6vvti petrol engine sounding like a diesel on start up this morning, stopped after a few seconds, first time I have heard this.....car sat 2 days in car park but oil changed only 2 months ago so fresh and full, any ideas??

You don't say what the mileage is or whether there was any smoke. Is it possible the engine oil was overfilled and it has worked its way up past the piston rings as well as down th valve guides if they and the seals are worn? I'd take the plugs out for a start and check them to see if they're oiled up.

mileage 58k no smoke and oil is definitely not overfilled, but I will take the plugs out and double check them though tonight

If the 1.6 uses hydraulic tappets (I don't know if it does) then noise on startup, particularly if its been left a while can be normal as they take a second or two to refill and pressurise.

Other thought... is the oil filter genuine Toyota part with a non return valve to stop oil draining back into the sump ?
