Any (not too technical) advice appreciated. Avensis 2.2  in really cold weather turns over fine but just won't start after awhile Battery sounded sluggish so connected jump leads to wife's car and started straight away charged my Battery and had same problem next morning so bumped it started fine with bump. Started fine later when was a bit warmer. Decided it must be Battery on way out was going to go and buy a new one but car has started on second attempt this morning ( a bit warmer today ) and don't want to spend £140 if this isn't the issue any advice?

Dave, what year is your Avensis? There is an issue with certain vehicles that affects cold starting due to insufficient pressure in the fuel rail. Requires an ECU update and replacement SCV. To check whether you have the problem you can pour hot water on the fuel pump before starting on a cold day. There's a good article somewhere on the site about it. I'll try to find it and add here. The article I sent applies to the 2ad engine which I think was the only 2.2 diesel fitted to the Avensis. The ECU update is about £100 from a Toyota dealer only and the valve is £112 from pf Jones in Manchester. I did mine about a month ago, wish I'd done it much earlier. Ian
