Belt light reset won't work

Hi all I've just changed the timing belt light on my 96 3.0 surf kzn185 and have searched the web for advice on how to reset the timing belt light however the instructions I've followed with regards to swapping the screw around at the back didn't seem to work..is there something I'm not doing right like having the ignition on while swapping the screw or something else, any help greatly appreciated
