Parcel shelf clip repair

Slightly odd how-to as I'm not quite sure how the previous owner managed to break the original parcel shelf clip but thought I'd take some pics as I repaired mine and hopefully it might help someone else... in fact it will probably work on a lot of other cars to be honest!

1.jpg

As you can see above the original clip had been sheared off.

2.jpg

I remembered I had a bag of assorted Toyota trim clips and found these push fit ones that were the same size as the missing clip.

3.jpg

After removing the central boot liner trim (sorry I forgot to take pic at this stage) I was able to get to the trim that runs up the side of the boot and ends at the rear seatbelt housing.

4.jpg

This was easily pulled away, you can see it's held in by two round clips near the light cluster

6.jpg

And more horizontal slot clips at the top

5.jpg

I increased the size of the hole that was left carefully so as not to make it too big.

7.jpg

I checked the clip would be snug by trying it the wrong way round first being careful not to posh the centre part though.

8.jpg

Once I was happy I got my hand behind the trim and pushed the clip through, making sure to engage the centre part this time to lock it.

9.jpg

Works a treat.

The links to the ibb site are a bit fiddly and don't work without a little bit of extra work!
Here is a couple, but I did view them all.

Anyway, great way to improvise a fix. Gives me an idea to fix my glove box damper.

Thanks Konrad, but I'd already fixed before you replied.

That’s a nice tip. I have done my other half Auris with metal screw from old IKEA furniture, it’s a black colour, exact size and did screw in all the way just stick out same as the original think. I did use some super glue to prevent the screw from self undo.
Regards

Oh so this might be something that breaks for a few people then.

Sorry to bump another old thread, but I've noticed my driver's side pin is missing:

Is the method in the OP still the best way to repair this?

Thank you all 🙂

You can do this or just drive in self tapering screw from ikea furniture corners and add some super glue. Almost everyone should have some of these somewhere in the house. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284994048253?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=mvqJIPvHTtC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=p34UK1z2T4m&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Legend, thank you!!

So just to confirm:

  1. Find or buy those screws.
  2. Remove the old clip
  3. Insert the screw inside and glue it into place
  4. Pop parcel shelf back on which should fit perfectly.

Yes,

remove any plastic left over from previous pin. You will need to drill a small hole if there is non to help the screw goes through. Tighten up and see how it fits, then remove and apply glue to the screw thread and inset the screw into the hole, tighten up to adjust correct position, the piece without tread should poke out. Leave at least for 12-24 hrs so the glue can dry and bond , before carefully placing the parcel shelf. I did all that and fixed the problem permanently. Car used two years and then was sold with this diy fixture. if it doesn’t work for you then you have to do it the other way with plastic clip from inside. 👍

Just a quick one to say this hacky fix is still holding up well to this day. Shelf has been on and off a fair bit with tip runs and Santa duties 🙂
