Bumper protectors (to protect the rear bumper from scratches when loading the boot) are usually held in place using double sided automotive tape.

Thanks, any tips for removing this if they are held on with automotive tape?

Try using a hair dryer to heat and soften the adhesive.

As above re a hair dryer. I have succeeded in the past by using a flat bladed wallpaper/paint scraper with the end wrapped with a microfibre/soft cloth. Start at one end with the heat, not too much it's a plastic bumper moulding, and start to tease the trim away as the adhesive melts. Continue slowly along the entire length. As an alternative to a scraper, try a sawing action with nylon fishing line.

The above is only a suggestion, not a definitive solution!

Suppose one thing to bear in mind is whether the bumper protector has been there from when the car was new, or was it installed to prevent further scratches/marks.

Or even hide existing scrapes etc.?
