car just started making bad rattle.

HI , i was on my way home when the car just lost power and started to make a bad rattle. i didn't want to attempt to carry on so called aa, the mechanic said it was top end and not to drive.it had plenty oil. so took it to a mechanic who changed the oil pump water pump belt pulley. and then said the turbo was gone as it had a nut in it. would this cause it to loose power and stop. please help as it has cost me £600 so far no new turbo.
