Corolla not making audible warning noise when headlights on and driver's door open

Hello,

My '55 plate Toyota corolla (UK) does not make an 'audible' warning when the headlights are left on and I open the drivers door.

Can you please help me diagnose which part(s) is likely to be broken or other advice.

Thank you in advance and take care.

Have you ever had the warning sound working in the past? Do you have an owners handbook/manual ? Have you accidentally switched it off/turned the volume down ?

Hi Bill, Yes I had the warning sound before.

I don't have the owners' manual anymore.

I can't think how I might have accidentally switched the warning sound off or lowered its volume, I don't even know what to press.

Don’t know if this will help but I had this problem on a Renault Laguna it was the actual plug in small speaker/relay that makes the sound behind the dash. Not sure where the relays etc are on a 55 corolla but I would think that the one you are looking for would more than likely be up under the drivers side of the dash. I assume that the interior lights come on when you open the door as the lights on alarm are usually linked to the same circuit.

Hi Rosgoe,

No the interior lights don't come on when i open the drivers door. My vanity lights are just a 2-bottom push system, i leave them un-pressed.

I suspect its the drivers 'door open switch' is faulty, as I just tested it and the car registers every other door (inc. boot) it displays a 'door open' warning symbol on dash but not for the drivers door.

But i don't know why the 'Keys left in' & 'headlights left on' warning sounds don't work?

Definitely confirmed its the drivers door on switch. I removed it and its broken. Annoyingly, the it wasn't connected to any cables, to the cable has fallen into the frame of the car. I don't know how to get to that cable

is the switch on the B pillar if so, It's accessed by removing the trim

The B Pillar is the one by the drivers shoulder as you sit in the car

That is the 'Door Open Switch/Senor' which I removed.

The cable it should have been attached to has fallen behind that.

I need to see which trim to remove to reconnect the cable to a new 'door open switch'
