Whole dashboard is getting sticky, leaving marks and indents if anything touches it, even my fingerprint. I love this car, can anything be done to stop it please, return it to normal, or even replace it?

Try a microfibre cloth, very hot water and detergent. If that doesn't bring any surface contamination off then the plastics might have deteriorated (sun exposure or inappropriate chemicals/cleaning agents used in the past).

Thank you Mooly.  I have followed your welcome instruction, cloth now stained with black stuff, and dashboard is dull, streaky, but still tacky, so I assume the plastic is perishing.  The Air bag section is fine, still in full sun, but feels like it is harder plastic, as lower dashboard is.  I wonder if there is a sealant to protect what's left?

I hope you get it sorted unfortunately I can’t offer a solution but I did have a similar problem with a set of surround sound Speakers (KEF) a few year ago and whatever I tried failed they always remained sticky to some degree. I hope you get a solution.

The product I have found which seems to "mend" perished synthetics is Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care.  Highly recommended.  Annual use prevents the problem occurring as well.

I looked at a few Ytube videos and a number look to be getting good results with Goo Gone, which is a goo and adhesive remover. On one video the guy is cleaning a Toyota 02 plate using this and scotch bright. It’s available from Amazon at £12.5 might be worth a try if the AutoGlym does not work. I’d probably try an area un seen first as a tester.

In the US there is a product called Sticky Dash that cleans and then recoats the surface not much help but it’s obviously an issue that some manufacturers are finding it worth addressing.

As I said earlier I tried so many thing with the Kef’s (same soft touch as the dash) and failed, things have moved on since then.

If the plastic actually feels sticky then that sounds like some deterioration of some sort has happened. I wonder if anything has been applied in the past that has caused a problem.

I wonder if asking a professional car valeter for advice would be worthwhile... this is probably something they encounter and will instantly know if its retrievable or not.

Hi, thank you for time. I have taken it to Toyota, they've never seen anything like it but guess the sun is reacting to a cleaning  chemical.  It's only had Mr Sheen!  They have a specialist interior detailer who will give me their view, and maybe fix it. Meantime I will continue with the hot washing. Thank you again.
