Gear Knob removal

Trying to remove the gear knob on my 2013-16 Proace 1.6 van so that I can replace the tatty gaiter. I thought it might be the same method as on the Peugeot Expert which is removal by brute force but that does not seem to work. Suggestions anyone?

On your van according to the repair manual, unclip the base of the gaiter from the dash, pull it up over the knob, cut the cable tie retaining the gaiter, now disengage the knob

Cheers, thank you for the reply, I've managed to pull the gear knob off but, there's a small black plastic bit on the end of the gear shift shaft with three lugs that I can't get off, I would cut it off but only if I can replace it...so I could return back to the original knob in the future
