2018 Yaris Brake Caliper Retaining Clip Removal

Hi

I am in the process of the replacement of discs and pads on a 2018 Yaris 1.5

The good news is I have bought the bits from Parts-king and they appear to be the right ones.

I have been doing this kind of task for years but on this occasion I have come across something that I have not seen before.

There is a thick wire clip that seems to hold the caliper to the mounting bracket. I have attached a photo and it can be seen fairly easily.

The first question is what does it do ? the caliper is bolted to the bracket so I am not clear on its purpose.

The second quesion is how do I remove it without causing any damage ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Solved, it just pulls out of the hole in the caliper.

Easy peasy.

Still don't really understand what it does.

Any bright ideas ?

It's just an anti rattle spring, that's what it is listed as anyhoo

If you have rear discs you will need a wind back tool as the hand brake uses the caliper

As above, it stops the pad shifting about or rattling when worn

Don't know if you have refitted it yet but it can be a bit fiddly.

I find that fitting one end first, push the wire into the hole with the "bent" end in place. Push the other wire into it's hole then lever the end into position. Depending on finger strength a levering implement isn't necessary. Give each end a tap to ensure they are fully into the holes.
