Click knock noise from steering

I am getting the dreaded knock when parking if i turn the steering to the right i hear one knock  as soon as i turn the wheel if i take the wheel back to the starting position then turn it left it doesn't knock i read there is a quick test which involves unlocking the column and pulling it as far forward and down as it'll go lock it  and try again  i did this and it stops the knock so i assume its the same dry grease problem everyone else is having.

Update -

I had the car in the non-Toyota garage today they said they did the grease thing (discussed in the thread above) as some Fiestas do the same but it's not much better so i asked the mechanic if he had checked everything and if in his view it's safe to drive and he said yes,  as a few members in the other thread said they didn't bother with the grease fix and after thousands of miles the sound had not got worse  i have decided i  am going to leave it alone and when i get the MOT and service done in June  at Toyota i will ask their view on it.

A quick question -

My car is a 2019 model and has 3 service stamps by a Toyota dealer does this mean it's still in warranty and if not when i get the MOT/Service done next June will the steering be fixed under warranty if it is faulty?

I think you can book appointment with Toyota dealer specifically for this clicking noise and ask for warranty replacement. They should do it. They may say it’s not a safety issue but it is annoying and it’s not up to the Toyota standards. Ask for new steering column or to replace bolt or joint if necessary but to stop the clicking. I would have done that but when I bought the car I only had a month left manufacture warranty and I did not want really to let the car been working on by mechanics in case they do something wrong on it and then warranty refuses to take care as the car turns 5 years old, basically I didn’t want to take the risk of having more serious trouble. Same with small oil leak  discovered at 60k miles,  on of these two issues has worsened now 7 years later and 224k miles traveled. I believe that less you try to fix something that ain’t broken less trouble you will have with your car.

Thanks Tony i will see what they say at my next MOT/Service and if the noise gets worse i will of course get it looked at sooner.

I have done plenty of searching and many different Toyota models have suffered from the knock/click noise over the years thankfully i haven't read a single post where they said it got so bad it was dangerous or an MOT fail i will therefore ignore it for now.

IIRC It's not a safety issue,  so Toyota did not recall the cars.

In the begining they did fix some of the cars, then started selling kits for DIY jobs.

I don't even notice it on mine, clicks here and there.

Mine does a single click when stood still every time i turn the wheel to the right, what i don't get is if it's a spline why it doesn't do it in both directions as if there is slight wear in the spline in theory it cannot be in one side of the spline only.

My Yaris does it when reversing into the drive.  Not sure if it’s the drop links or the upper bearings changing their position but I’m convinced there’s nothing dangerous or even worthy of further investigation.

I am leaving mine now as it doesn't appear to be getting any worse and numerous members have been driving their cars with the same click and have had no problems, it'll be interesting to see what happens when i take it to the dealer for service next year.

Has anyone here with this click ever had a fail from the MOT station?

Have they ever had it mentioned when taking the car for service at a dealer?
