Red battery sign Toyota Verso 2010

We have Toyota verso 2010 d4d 2.0. Today whilst Mrs was driving, red Battery sign lit up. I've checked the Battery and it was at 12.2v. Started the car and voltage dropped to 11.4 or something so clearly alternator isn't working. I've checked fuse (some weird looking fuse locked in clear box inside fuse box) and that seems to be intact. Auxiliary belt is fine too. I will check wiring and ground points but is there any common issues I need to be aware of before I fork out £100s on new alternator?

From my experience charging problems are commonly caused by a faulty regulator or worn brushes in the alternator. You could take it to an auto-electrical garage. I have a feeling that nowadays, it might be just as cheap to just replace the whole alternator. Do check with them. You could get a second-hand alternator. But if reliability is key, get a new.
