First long distance road trip in the Yaris

It’s my first long distance road trip in my new Yaris, a 4 day break in Cornwall travelling from Herefordshire. The 240 mile trip down to St Erth was a breeze, impressive on the motorway, the adaptive cruise with lane control made driving extremely relaxed. Averaging 61.9mpg cruising at 70mph was impressive. We eventually arrived at Land’s End this evening in time to watch the sunset and whilst there was plenty of time to take some pictures of the sea views I couldn’t help taking a few of the Yaris. After 7 weeks of ownership I can’t fault it, it’s economical, fun to drive and effortless and comfortable on long drives.

Nice, Cornwall is one of my fav place in the UK. Good to know the MK4 handle long distance well and get really good mpg even at 70 mph. With the MK3 I don't look forward to long distance trips, it's hard work and noisy engine. So looking forward to eventually get the MK4 and no longer have to work hard on long distance journeys.

Was a little concerned as this is my first small car, my last car being a Peugeot 508SW which was a comfortable motorway cruiser. I also own a Volvo XC60 D5 and a 20 year old Porsche so tough competition. The Volvo has all the driver aids but mpg is rubbish and the Porsche is impossible to drive at 70mph and fuel economy makes even the Volvo look good.

Bizarrely I only bought the Yaris as an economical run about, however it has become more than that, I actually look forward to driving it, and even though it has no gears it is extremely fun to push along the twisty B roads now I have learnt how to switch off the lane assist.  The lane assist however does work well for motorway driving, however can be quite disconcerting on ordinary roads when driving in a spirited manor.

Ahh! We parked east side of the entrance when we visited in 2019. Didn't realize you could ge closer! We're missing the place and want to return.

@YarisHybrid2016 you can generally park there rather than the main car park if you are visiting the restaurant, but nobody knows really.  Perfect place to watch the sun setting from the car on a cold day (almost 5:54pm tonight)

Great photos, never been to Cornwall and heard a few times that it's really nice, possibly get my MK4 Yaris that way and up the other way  towards Scotland this summer 👍

Its all relative. For those that remember this far back the Yaris looks extremely wide compared to a MKIII Ford Escort for example (and even compared to a Cortina) and it is also only 30mm shorter than the Escort. Those were classed as medium and large family cars back in the day.

How did you manage to keep the car so clean after 240 miles? Don't tell us you packed a sponge and bucket too. 😄

It hasn’t always been that clean 🤪

I gave it a good wash and polish last week. It did get quite mucky on the way down to Cornwall however it rained the previous night washing off most of the dirt.  Plan to give it a good coating at some point, then generally it is a quick jet wash without the dirt sticking to it too much 👍
