Long Crank Time?

Hi all,

So my 06' Avensis (2AD-FHV engine) cranks for quite a while before starting, talking about 4-5 seconds. Is this normal?
Every car I've owned in the past would start up more or less straight away. I bought this one a week or so ago and have
since changed the fuel filter yesterday hoping that would help some but it hasn't done much. Any advice would be
appreciated 🙂

Thanks

Does it do it every time, when hot as well as cold?

Hello by chance could it be the suction control valve on. The pump might be the problem I have heard this could cause those problems .that pic is for the 2.0 d4d engine yours must be something like it

Do you let the glow plug light go out before cranking, scan it for codes

Okay, so I changed this valve today. Probably the easiest job I've ever done on a car. Sadly, the lengthy crank time persists. Might the issue now be to do with the fuel pump or fuel injectors?

sorry boss i was kina koping that would have fixed your problem my bad for saying that. i seen it before somewhere on here that that would cause the same problem. what about you think putting in a fuel non return valve on the inlet side so the fuel dont go back into the tank

Not a problem, appreciate the suggestion nonetheless. I also saw some people post about the SUV, fairly inexpensive to replace anyway. Think I'll just leave it for now and have a proper inspection when I get the chance.
