Spare tyre on rav4 plugin hybrid.

This question is for Rav 4 plugin hybrid cars.

I have ordered a RAV 4 GR sport plugin hybrid. It'll come with a puncture repair kit. Is there a space for a full size spare tyre under the boot or you will need a space saver steel rim spare? My current Freelander2 came with a repair kit but I had to get a full size spare wheel as I didn't trust these puncture repair kit.

Thank you for your answer.

There isn't room for a full-size road wheel under the floor. A space saver will fit comfortably. It doesn't have to be steel - you can get suitable alloy space savers (and save a bit of weight). You will also need a jack and tools as these are not required and not supplied when the car comes with a repair kit. Search out loads of threads of the subject and links to the Road Hero kit.

2023 Suzuki Across comes with space saver spare wheel, jack and wheel brace. The downside no space for your leads.

Thank you for your answers. I will look into this issue when I have the car. @ Lasser yes I don't know why the design trim has spare but not the GR sport trim?

I read somewhere that the Suzuki Across actually RAV 4 plugin hybrid. Why did you decide to buy Suzuki instead of Toyota?

I assume I can buy all of these from Toyota's dealer.

Generally not but it does depend on the dealership. There is no option for a space saver spare on your car so the dealer won't be able to find it on the stock list.

If you can find the parts numbers you may be able to get a dealer to order in a spare for a different grade. They do turn up on eBay etc.. But it is probably easiest to get one through a third party specialist ...

Not according to the current price list - "Both models have 19" alloys and come with a tyre repair kit (TRK) as standard".

On the standard hybrid, the availability of a space saver spare is dependent upon whether the sun roof is fitted: "* Please note when the optional Toyota Skyview® Panoramic Roof is taken, the spare wheel is replaced with a Tyre Repair Kit (TRK)." I understand that it's a weight saving thing ...

It is the RAV rebadged. More readily available.

Just checked with Toyota UK. The Design trim does has a space saver spare wheel and you are right the wheel size determines if the car comes with a spare or repair kit. Design trim is R18 tyres whereas GR sport is R19.

This is a list of the space saver parts from my 2022 Rav4 Excel which had 19" alloys.

Just wondering, does the PHEV have bigger brakes than the HEV RAV4? wondering if the 18in space saver (or even HEV alloys) would fit on the PHEV

I said it before , my Excel with 19'' alloys was fitted with a spare wheel by the dealer, so it is possible

My 2021 Excel (19" wheel) came with a TRK. Exactly the same car in 2022 (19" wheel) came with a space saver spare.

The parts list posted above is from the invoice for the 2022 spare that I purchased from my dealer for my 2021 car. They were superb in tracking down all of the required parts. All they needed was a reg no for an appropriate vehicle from which to work. I "borrowed" one from a kind forum member. 👍

It was far from the cheapest way to get a spare but everything is OE and it all fits exactly as you would expect.

ETA: I have since ordered and fitted an OE spare for the memsahib's Aygo X.

Went to the dealer yesterday, as they have a new gr sport phev, to check the space for the spare wheel and I don't think there is enough space for a space saver spare let alone a full size. May be the GR sport trim is different from other phev.

The boot floor pan will be the same across all the PHEV’s. If a spare fits in a Design or Across it will fit in a GR Sport, just might need some adjusting of the plastic mouldings.

I and a guy from the dealer took the foam insert out to see if a spare can be placed but it looked very shallow. I'll  try to take a pic next time.

You need to look at a Design PHEV at the same time. A spare wheel doesn’t mean it is the same width as the normal alloy…..

The dealer doesn't have a design phev to view. Sale guy asked the service department for me and they said they can't supply a spare due to it being GR Sport trim. I think the reworked suspension for the GR  sport trim may cause this. It looks very shallow and I guess the depth is about 6 inches. The space saver wheel size 165/90/R18 has 6.5 inches width so it may not fit! I think 165/80/R17 has the same width. I hope someone already has a Phev. GR Sport can give me the answer.

Did you find a correct size? I’m in the same boat as you, and would like to purchase even if only stored in the garage

My car is coming on the 4th March I will try to see if a space saver fits. To be honest I haven't got a puncture (touch wood) for a long time and if the space saver doesn't fit, so with the repair kit supplied, for MOT purposes, I will buy a plug in repair kit so I don't have to use the repair gunk that comes with the car.

As my Toyota dealer can't provide me with a spare tyre and doesn't have a Rav4 with a spare so I can try, I went to a Suzuki dealer to query about a spare tyre from their across car. Unfortunately they haven't got one and they phone Toyota customer service directly while I was with them. Toyota said that they can't sell me a spare one as on the Rav4 Phev GR Sport the Speakers in the boot prevents putting a spare tyre there. I am going on a 1000km trip and and I bought a puncture repair kit plus electric pump hopefully to repair if the puncture isn't too big.  Does anyone has a spare tyre with their Rav4 phev GR Sport?
