Radio text size

Hi, I own a 2007 Yaris diesel manual. The text displayed is too large. see photo:

IMG_20231120_105308_405.thumb.jpg.88147a7ffc82a7630c2fa9e733bbe521.jpg

This is what appears for the Aerosmith track "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing". This display does not scroll across.

All I get is "I DON'T". I wrote this title as "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" using both lower and upper case, yet it appears only in upper case. It is also too large. Is there any way to scroll and show the text as I originally wrote it in smaller text so I can see the whole of the text in the display without having to scroll?

Thanks Ken

Hi Ken

Unfortunately there is no solution for that as far as I am aware, I had the same radio-cd in my first Yaris and it was not showing more or smaller

Yeah, it's really stupid - It looks like it will scroll because of the arrow, but no that's all you get.

I still have a USB stick of MP3s for that car somewhere, where I stripped out all the ID3 tags and tried to shorten the names so I'd know what the song was; That was giving me PTSD flashbacks of the old DOS days, where filenames had to be no more than 8 characters long!

Had such gems as CLLKTULU, ENTRSAND, SWEETCHI, ANBRIWAL, COMFNUMB, ASTRODOM, SHICRYDI, NEONRAIN, BOHEMRAP, MTREMPTY, ADSN4LIFE, USTOLESUN, LEARNFLY, BLUDANUB, SGLNYCBD etc.

So, it looks like I'm stuck with it!! A new radio or shortening names like Cyker would probably be the only way. You would think that Toyota would have tested the radio first and noticed its shortcomings.

Cheers to all and thanks for your replies

Ken

They do in later cars, but the Mk2 is fairly old and Toyota tend to be a generation behind with stuff like that as they prefer everyone else find out the bugs first

At least the Mk2 had some sort of display for the name - The Mk1 didn't even have that!! Progress 'eh!

There is a progression through the models tho' - I've got the Mk4 now, and Toyota have discovered the existence of ID3 tags and embedded Album art! Truly innovate times we live in!

Well said Cyker,

Incidently my 07 Yaris has only done 64K miles and I'm sticking with it - no milk floats for me! I still get over 60mpg and only £30 annual road tax. Don't use it much now just the shopping and occasional other short-trip use. Had it over 10 years now - never missed a beat, always passed it's MOTs with no repairs etc. Everything works - just had two new rear tyres £94.

If anyone else is reading this get yourself a diesel Yaris and keep it until they force you to get an EV. That's what I'm gonna do. No worries.

Cheers Ken

Yeah the diesel Yarisusesiees were great fun - So much torque in a car that weighs nothing!

I had a diesel Mk1 and still miss it, but alas down here we're at the mercy of our dictator/mayor KHAAAAN! may his unmentionables be infested with embarrassing and debilitating parasites.

But the Mk4 is a bloody good car and is a good side-grade to any refugee DERV heads. The 3-pot even has a very D4D-like dakka to it   The Mk2 has a faaaaaaar better interior (I really miss the sliding and tilting (!) rear seats and ridiculous number of storage cubbies the Mk2 had!), but the Mk4's driving dynamics are awesome, nearly fiesta-like, so you loose some and gain some with it. It's biggest downside is it's ridiculously expensive (It's a Yaris!!! Not a... Lexris!!!) but depreciation is on your side there!

In Coventry no such worries although the Loonies are in power here also. All they've managed to do so far is destroy our old city centre and introduce cycle tracks everywhere so that our main roads into the centre are now too narrow and it's like driving a dodgem car at rush hours. Can't comment on the Mk4 - never driven one.

Sounds like Genghis is really rubbing you up and we must pity those poor sods in Wales under the socialist woke yoke. I tried 20mph the other day to see what it must be like and found it very hard to drive at that speed.

As a Londoner yourself perhaps you can tell me something that I've always wondered about - why did all your neighbours vote for a  Looney Mayor. Was it his handsome visage? Or maybe his cutting wit? Perhaps his grasp of current problems and his solutions to solve them? They vote in Hackney for Abbott and in Islington for Corbyn. Are they all nuts?

Cheers Ken

The problem is there weren't any strong candidates - The only person with any chance was Shaun Bailey, and I thought he'd get a boost from the black community but still hardly anyone voted so KHAAAN! still won.

It's the same reason Ken Livingstone stayed in power so long - Nobody bothered to vote.

I strongly suspect the only reason Boris got in was because he was more famous from e.g. Have I Got News For You and Top Gear appearances.

I'm hoping KHAAAAN! gets voted out next year, but again the conservative candidate isn't very compelling, and you have to remember we have lot of very militant cyclists and pedestrians who are very anti-car, so I'm not holding my breath. They're also changing how the voting system for the Mayor works next year so it's even less likely he'll get voted out.

And even if he does go, I'm not convinced whoever gets in will reverse the ULEZ once they see how much money it rakes in - It's e.g. why we still have to pay a toll for the Dartford Crossing despite it being paid off over 20 years ago and should now be free to cross. (Only now called a "Charge", because charging a "toll" would be illegal now that it's been paid off. Oh such a difference a name-change makes...)

So true. What is the real difference between the Tea Lady of the past, and the Beverage Dispensing Executive of today. They both do exactly the same thing.
