Windscreen washer pump (MOT failure)

Hi,

My MOT failed last month due to the windscreen washer pump not working.

The tester showed me when he pulled the button the electrical sound wasn't heard (I hadn't topped it up).

I'm not sure if it is the front or rear that's not working. I assumed it was the front (later realised there is a front and rear washer!) And I can't couldn't see anything on the MOT documents which one it was.

I've bought a replacement off Amazon and from memory, it seems not something that even me - a car rookie - would not be able to replace (YouTube video says the tyre needs to be taken out etc) but as I've not checked, could it be the pump faulty or anything electrical? Would it work even if the fluid was empty as the tester said?

I'm taking it to the garage on Friday so hope your responses will arm me with the relevant knowledge as I - uncomfortably - exchange comments on this topic with the mechanic.

Thank you

I did a little digging because your car is a Mk2 T25 model and I fixed my Mk1 T22 washer pump many years ago. I found these older posts, but not my actual post when I did mine. Since hatchbacks and estates had dual motors, I have to do a simple test to confirm which motor to replace. I swapped the connections of front and rear pumps and also left one unconnected. Then I activated the washer system to confirm the faulty motor. Access is under the front right wheel arch liner by the bumper. Just remove the clips and screws for access. You may need a container or low level bucket to catch any fluid unless the washer bottle is empty. The removing the pump holder and replacing the faulty pump. The job will take only 30 minutes. Read the posts below.

Thanks! Of course I wasn't going to even attempt to replace it (and neither would I have the tools to do so) so the mechanic was able to do so and it works. Got the pump itself off Amazon for a tenner so pleased I avoided spending the other more expensive prices I was suggested by elsewhere 👍🏽
