Hi all

need to change the alternator on my 2015 1.2T auris .The problem is the intercooler for turbo is mounted above it

Do i need to remove intercooler to do this job.If so is there a procedure for same ,also the serpentine belt seems to drive 5 pullys

1 is crank shaft ,2 water pump ,3 A.C , 4 alternator ,anybody what the fifth pully drives ,it is run by the smooth side of the belt

Thanks Martin

Hi Martin, from a previous post Flash22 answered the pulleys question below my comments.

Can you get to the bolts out without removing the intercooler. Have you looked at the access from under the wheel arch cover you should then be able to see the pulleys and belt config. Hope this helps.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of free detailed information available for changing the alternator on the 8NR FTS engine.Hope this helps and hopefully another member maybe able to give you more information.😀

Going clock wise.............................

A/C

Crank

Tensioner

Alternator

Idler

Water Pump

Hi,Martin, From what I have been able to find online there doesn't seem to be any real issues with the Auris 1.2T,but Iike any car that has high mileage parts will wear and need replacement. I have a bit to catch up with you as I only have 44.200 miles on the clock.

Let us know how you get on with the alternator and if I can find any additional informative I will let you know.👍

Whilst your swapping alternator , do check the tensioner pulley for any play. Let us know how you get on.

One of the guys on the "8nr fts" thread faced same issue, but got garage to do under warranty. I think the tensioner and pulley was about £200 new. He had problems sourcing the new part.

What does the noise sound like?

Good luck and thanks for keeping us updated.

Hi all

Yes Solero parts hard to come by especially the tensioner with pulley .I am told by Toyota garage that it is unique to this engine which was only used for about 5 years But good news my buddy the auto elec has sourced them second hand from second hand parts dealer ,awaiting arrival

As for the sound like something is running rough or grinding sound

Thanks all will get back soon

Cool, i use partsouq.com for exploded parts diagramd.

Would be worth changing subject to "8NR FTS Tensioner Pulley / Alternator" or similar to help others in the future.
