Technically, anything is possible. Toyota has retained the same package form factor since the 80s. The issue if more around all the ancillaries. Check with Paul Woods - if anyone knows, he would.

personally no it's cheaper in the long run to get the car you want, why an old gen 2zz?

the 2zr is more current and more tunable as per the Lotus (supercharged is way over 300 bhp of reliable power)

look for a JDM Auris RS 1.8 6 speed manual - 145bhp out of the box

Possible but a PITA - You'll need to put the ECU from the T-Sport in and that means half the stuff in the Auris will stop working because they won't want to talk to it.

Toyotas are just not great for engine swaps unless you don't mind using a third-party ECU and/or sacrificing a lot of the built in functions.

Plus it'd probably be cheaper and less frustrating to just buy a T-Sport, assuming you can find one that hasn't been thrashed to death  They were overshadowed by the Honda Civic (There was a lot of rivalry on here back in the day between the Corolla T-Sport owners and Civic Type-R's  ), so tend to be relatively cheap to buy. Word of warning: Expect to have to replace the cam lift bolts on purchase (The joke back then was many an old lady was driving around a T-Sport completely unaware it had cam lift because the bolts snapped so frequently  )

They're quite fun but the fuel economy is shocking     so not great for a daily unless only doing short distances, or if you can resist revving up to lift (Which is hard, as it's quite addictive, or so I'm told :whistling1:)
