That's a bit off Topic.

Is this going to be a Marathon ?

Does that still go on?

Eyres at Coningsby did that for me.   I wanted a Silver Mondeo Ghia with boot spoiler, I thought it needed a spoiler for the style.   He sent a trailer to the West Country and did a swap.  There must have been some profit in it.

Not on new cars, but plenty of used get taken around the country

Back to hitch hikers, or anyone in difficulty. I am very cautious about offering help to a female, especially late at night.  Not so bad if my wife is with me, but if I am alone there is the risk of misinterpretation of intent.  Depending on the apparent seriousness of the situation, in a worst case scenario I would probably call 999, explain the position, and then say that I am staying close by to keep watch until the emergency service(s) arrive.

I was with my wife when we once came across a young woman in a broken down vehicle late at night, and on a dark, lonely stretch of road.  I told her we would park close by, and wait until help arrived.  She managed to contact a relative (brother, I think) and he turned up about twenty minutes later.  Thanks were expressed, and we departed in the satisfying knowledge that we hadn’t left a young woman open to danger.

Back in the day as a young apprentice, I would swop news cars with dealers up and down the land, often hitching a lift with trade plates, in those days, if the dealer you worked at had a Blue Corolla in stock, but the customer wanted a Red one, the only way to get it would be a dealer swop. I have literally hitched a lift all over the country, happy days, paid cash in hand too :naughty:

My step-son used to do similar. He worked for a friend who ran a small dealership specialising in classic, luxury and sports cars, and would be sent off all over the country to auction sites and other dealers to drop off and collect cars. He got to drive some very exotic vehicles for a 21-22 year old!

Some years ago there was a fuss in the papers over Defence misappropriation of funds.   The Commander at NAS Yeovilton was allocated a White Mondeo.  He didn't want white and ordered it resprayed Maroon.  I remember he was in the poo, but not how deep.

At the same time my boss was allocated  Maroon one and would have been quite happy with White.  He kept the Maroon 😆
