Gt4 Bottom End

Im looking into buying a GT4 st165. The car is cheap with MOT and tax. The only problem is the 'bottom end' has gone. I have no idea what this means and was wondering if anybody could provide some information. How much do you think it would cost to fix ? Would I be better just putting in a new engine, if so how much would this cost. Any information provided is greatly appreciated- thanks in advance
