Hi Guys,

I'm actually a celica owner but have recently looked around on autotrader for a supra.

there is one dealer selling import Supra's RZ-s VVTi from 2000, and want's 25K for them.

What's the deal here, i thought that all supra's stopped production in 1996? :huh:

anybody got any info??

cheers

Just being picky, they didnt stop production in the US or UK, they stopped importing :P and they stopped production in Japan in 2002 and very much doubt they'll be a 2004 model ?????? unless its the MKV..........but thats still a myth.

Are the press clippings actual Toyota quotes or is it just the press doing what they do best?? this was only mentioned only the other week on the mkiv owners site, and apparantly there is still no official response from Toyota about it, but hey, if there's a thread about it no point repeating :D ill take a look.

That looks like the agreed final car, although if anyones put a deposit on a 'supra' theyre in for a dissapointment as apprently the name is being dropped.

speculation and hearsay though.. who knows.. love the styling (based on the 2000GT, cant go wrong with that :D )

but no major biggy to de-resrict most of them when they come over, if done with something like a unichip you even get the power gains out of it as well

You really don't want to do it that way. The best way is to modify the signal from/to the ecu. A box of tricks can be bought which does exactly this and still allows the cruise control to work to approx 124mph, the active spoiler - if fitted - to work at the correct speed and the gear changes in an auto to be correct. Theres plenty of information about de-=restricting on the following sites.

MKIV.COM

UK MkIV site

and information about a signal convertor (delimiter) can be found here;

TRL performance - Delimiter

The problem with using piggy back ecu or replacement ecu is that you have consider the whole thing not just one elemnt of the upgrade. JDM Supras (pre vvti) had 440cc injectors for example, this puts a limit on the amount of fuel that can be supplied at higher boost levels. Without extra fuel you will get 'knocking', very high egts and eventually a bu66ered engine.

This is true of any car when you start seeking extra power, decide what power you want, then speak to an expert engineer about what needs to be considered. Fortunately for Supra owners there are a few of these experts about and they make it their business - literally - to know about the supra.
