Where Do I Go From Here....

Ok so i just received my downpipe/decat today. A nice big 3" Megan pipe from the states.

So thats gonna go in soon with either an Apexi GT or Blitz Nur Spec R exhaust.

But before i get a boost controller and an FCD im thinking i should upgrade the cooling as im aiming for 500bhp :)

So im thinking FMIC to replace the stock one and maybe water injection.

Is this the right way to go? How good is the standard intercooler?

Any particular size fmic i should be going for?

Is there anything else i should upgrade? i.e oil cooler etc

Cheers peeps

A very Tastey Greddy Alloy FMIC arrived today for my TT... yuuummmaaayyy..

I'd defo upgrade you 'cooler mate, but just remember, the huger massive volume ones increase lag!!!

are the stock injectors and fuelling good for 500 bhp without leaning out??

I'd go guage happy, if you are monitoring oil temp, intake temp, egt... etc etc.. you can judge for yourself if your cooling is adequate ot not

You never take it over 60 anyway :bye: ;)

id agree with charlie, now your on a roll get some decent monitoring gear

some gauges and a proper electronic boost controller is the way forward then start tinkering it again and keep your eyes open

cooler and WI are a defo yes for bigger boost and power with melting a piston or pre-det trying to blast it through the bottom of the crank case

humm. if you want a BIG intercooler you should start looking

at may be a BIG ***** MERC SPRINTER VAN intercooler. it will do the

same job as a upgraded 1 if not better. or 1 off a 4+4. you will have

to make it fit. and you save lots of money. you only pay for the name

4 things like hks. i put a ford trasit intercooler in my cav turbo and it was

the bo#### just a thought.

Diesel intercoolers are not very well suited to high boost applications as the levels on diesel engines tend to be quite low.

Yup, Diesels are a total different kettle of fish!!!

Much lower revs, but far higher presure! (25:1 compression ratios!!!).

I have seen the boost guage in a Scania tractor unit... 3 bar!!!!

Stock injectors on UK Soop MKIV (don't want to annoy Karma Supra ;)) are 550CC so should be capable of getting you to 500bhp.

ok chaps i userly i wood not argue. but i have put a trasit intercooler

in my cav turbo and it did the job. my cav was in max power on a

rolling road and it did 172 MPH so it does work.

Thanks for the input guys, i like the idea of using a big intercooler off another vehicle rather than shelling out for a branded FMIC.

What makes a Diesel intercooler diffrent to a Petrol intercooler?

I've found a nice Merc Intercooler which would fit nicely into the front of the supra and its only like under £5 at the mo

Anyone know the core size of the stock mk4 intercooler?

What kinda core size should i look for for 500bhp? Dont need anything that supports more than that and i dont want anything too big so i can keep lag down to a minimum

Here you go...

http://www.spokanestreetracing.com/index.p...ch=article&id=4

This is a good article and though rather long well worth a read. The bit concerning truck intercoolers is right at the bottom.

If you are buying a third party intercooler specify a size similar to the off the shelf ones. If you check on the relevant websites, Blitz, HKS, Greddy etc all the sizes are quoted.

Don't go too thick other wise you'll compromise the cooling system, as you'll discover if you read the link above.
