Power Inverters

Just bought one of these ---> clicky

Comes with 'jumplead' style cables to connect to the Battery, but i want to run it off the cig lighter.

Is this possible?

Because i 'fashioned' a cable to connect it into the lighter socket but im not getting any power :(

Straight from the Battery it works fine, not a sausage when plugged into the lighter though.

And i've tested the lighter with a few things before and after trying the invertor so there isnt anything wrong with the socket and i havent blown a fuse.

Is there something im missing? I think maybe its just a duff cable i've made up.

you got your ignition on?

*really* don't want to run an inverter through your ciggy lighter .. the cables from the Battery to inverter want to be as short as possible..

most ciggy lighter circuts only allow upto 180W, I agree with earpl, just hard wire it

It really needs connecting from the batt, otherwise you get voltage drops and as you already found out it wont work properly

you'll fry the wiring probably!

assuming fuse is 10A,

Power = Volts x Current = 12 * 10 = 120W (which is well below what you want)

Also, in the starlet (not sure about your car) the interior light, radio and cigarette lighter are all on the same circuit so best to hardwire it.
