Brake Pads

Brake pads uk spec - i need my toyota pads changed and wanted to know is this a simple something that can be done by my local garage or do i need to take it to my usual toyota or a jap specilist? (needless to say who charge me an arm an a legg!).

which brings me on to my next question to you experianced supra boys....and ladys, were should i get work an service done on my soop? :help: my local jap garage are very good and they used to be part of Toyta/Lexus servicing called JEM (they service and repair alot of import soops already). or Toyota??? toyota are slightly more expensive on labour eg fitt an supply rear + front pads £300, JEM costs £280, spark pluggs supply + fitt £180 toyota, £165 JEM.

some have said to me toyota wont know to much about the soop and that your better off going to a jap specilist....is this true???

oh, and if it helps at all some of my serv. hist is toyota but most of it is done by independant toyota specilists.

let me know please peeps.........

:o dude...... you can change the plugs yourself..... £12 for 6 of the cheap ngk ones if you run BPU (but need to be changed atleast twice a year) or get the more expensive ones for around £50 for 6 (shop around loads out there) .... trust me, i had no experiance of servicing etc.... until i got this car.... garage quoted me £190 to change plugs..... i went to halfrauds, got myself a £4.99 spark plug socket, took about 20 min all in all and saved myself a few hundred quid in the process.....

best get a few crank hoses as they have a tendency to crack... as for changing brakes.... thats a little project im going to leave to the experts ( i figured i'll watch em change it the first time, and do it maself from then on in.....) still, cant see any justification for £280 for fitting.... the pads, good ones at that (CW) you can get for aroun £120 front and rear.....

Errr what only twice a year if the car does 3k, 30k or 90k miles in that year ?

Changing brake pads on a UK spec is ***** easy.

i thought plugs lasted 60k at least?

I've just started having my car serviced at Miami GT in baisingstoke, although they have an office in London so should be not too far for you.

Just had a full service inc Blitz Filters and Royal Purple oil and a complete gearbox flush and refill for £270 all in. :D

Really nice people and big Supra enthusiasts, every time i go there i see at least 5-6 supras.

not sure about 60k on stock plugs , but these cheap copper ngk's are good for bpu , having spoke to quite a few people who ran iridiums/more expensive plugs on bpu cars they all agree copper ones are better if changed on a regular basis (few even had the tips melt and destory engine/turbos on the more expensive plugs)

martin, are rears/fronts easy to change on a j-spec???

Toyota Main Dealers will hardly ever see a supra, let alone have someone who knows enough bought them to totally trust.

Take it to a supra specialist like Miami GT, when you come to sell the car it looks better to have a vehicle specific specialist having carried out all servicing rather than just a generic main dealer.

Toyota charge £60 per hour, miami charge £35.. ;) nuff said hehe

I try not to go to the Toyota Main Dealer now if i can as they dont know anything about my car, have messed me about too many times and are very expensive

btw fitting uk spec brakes to a j-spec is pretty straightforward, you take off the old discs/pads/calipers and put on the new bigger ones

The only thing you may have to also change is the brake hoses as i reciently bought some from fensport and they must have been j-spec size as they were too small for my uk brakes... :(

edited...

Before i forget im fitting my new TRD discs/pads this week, so i'll have a full set of used pads and discs if your interested at all

Nope, very few do.

Depends if they're still around ;)

not sure about 60k on stock plugs ,

Stock Platinum plugs will last 60k on a stock car, if there are any stock cars out there still :D

(few even had the tips melt and destory engine/turbos on the more expensive plugs)

Think its fair to say that most people who experienced problems with iridiums have had other problems

Not quite so easy, but not particularly hard. You have to undo the lower bolt and swing the carrier upwards.

Whifbitz have their own workshop and have been working on Supras a lot longer than Miami GT
