Seem To Have Lost Power

Hi,

Since my problems with my car, I've had my ECU played around with, coil replaced, and ignitor replaced - that was all done by idiots who couldnt diagnose the real reason my car wouldnt start.

I then found the cam belt was damaged (teeth sheared off) due to the water pump not turning. Ive had water pump replaced and timing belt replaced.

The car now runs and SOUNDS fine, but I've noticibly lost LOTS of power, especially noticable when pulling away, it's like im driving a 1 litre diesel or something.. and when the car is loaded with people, it's almost as if it's going to stall when pulling away in 1st gear.

Any ideas what could be causing it? There is no jumping or anything, the engine is totally smooth, just that it has no power, and accelleration is probably almost half what it used to be.

(when will my problems with this car end....)

Thanks,

Daniel.

you clutch is fried. or your oil pressure is low, possible oil pump failure.

How knowledgable and able are you, because this will cost a few quid mate.

i'd rather do this by email though as i dont frequent toc as often as i'd like but check my mail daily.

Not all that knowledgable, I'm able enough to do something simple, nothing involving removing major parts... this is sounding like I should just ask the garage again

Most obvious thing that you should check which come to my mind are:-

A/ Reset the ECU

B/ Check the compression.

C/ Check the timing.

D/ Check vacuum hoses for cracks/leaks.

Unfortunately the car is getting on a bit and it could be any number of things or a combination thereof. But with a bit of patience and more than likely a bit of financial outlay. it should work out ok. A good time to start learning. Or, if you take it to a garage... Use a specialist. Might cost a few quid more but you`ll probably save in the long run. Good luck mate.

Hi,

It's all fixed, it turned out to just be the ECU had been played with by the previous garage, so the last garage guy just reset it for me :-D

At last I have a properly running car, that feels great to drive :-D

Thanks for ur help,

Daniel
