Import Hilux Parts?

Hi guys,

Recently purchased a twin-cab Toyota Hilux SSR-X, 2.8 Diesel (Non turbo). It is a Japanese import, declared manufactured in 1994 on the V5.

Just wondering what the main differences are between the Japanese models and the UK models? Having struggled with insurance companies most of whom failed to acknowledge the 2.8 SSR-X at all, I'm just wondering if I'm going to have the same trouble with my local motor factors when I need to order parts for it?

Does anyone know if things like brake pads and discs will be the same between the UK and Japanese vehicles? Or is there any specialist parts dealers that arent likely to charge an arm and a leg?

Thanks guys!

PS For import insurance try Tesco, From being quoted £2.5k upwards and being refused rather a lot, Tesco came in at £450 quid TPFT with my dad (64, retired as policy holder) and me (23, Engineer) as named driver. Worth a look anyway!

Hi - had a 2.8 non turbo twin cab that I imported direct 4-5 yrs ago. M registration. Yes - parts are easy - usually Milner can do the service packs, CV boots, exhausts etc.

Problem areas for parts - windscreens. They seal them differently in Japan and the glass is slightly thinner so watch out on your insurance for a higher excess on the import.

In the engine bay or next to the door post on the drivers side you may find stick on signs giving the last service dates. If you are really lucky there will be one in the engine saying the cambelt has been done and the kilometres

Great vehicle - good residual values even after 2-3 years of ownership. There was a bit of a shortage coming out of Japan during the last few years. A lot were going to Afghanistan and Iraq to carry film crews/militia etc. Nicknamed Taliwagons.

I'm just looking to buy another one but my contact in Japan has gone to ground. Yen is currently 133Y to the £ so their price looks strong on paper despite Japan's woefull economy.

Enjoy
