Braking Braking Breaking

HI All,

I have got to have new pads and front discs on my 2000 Avensis (47,000 miles).

I gather from posts on here that the super hard Toyota pads often cause damage to the discs wear out (in fact I had them same problem with my Celica which had to have new discs at 45,000). :angry:

So my plan is to use Toyota Original Discs (because I can get these cheaper than my garage can source after market ones) but I don't want to use Toyota pads.

Not interested in super high performance braking and I probably won't keep the car for more than a year or so. I am just after advice on the best pads to get (or at least which ones to avoid)

Come on chaps (and chapess'?) I know the answer is out there some where.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I use Apec pads available here http://www.brakesinternational.co.uk/

They are a good soft pad, not pricey and they clean the discs up nicely, especially if you have any marks or pad imprinting on them. Plenty of dust though.

They also sell Avensis front discs for £33 each, which is pretty good, and they are absolutely not a cheap and nasty product.

Cheers, I have had a look at the site and they show single and double caliper sets. Does anyone know what I need for my 2000(x) 12.8 VVti>

I'm sure someone will correct me if wrong but I'm pretty sure they changed the caliper design in 2001, which would make yours the twin piston caliper.

I agree with Andy40, Apec pads are pretty good on Jap cars, I've used them and like them, Ferodo are a reasonably soft pad too.

I have a 03/52 1/8VVti 5 Dr last of old shape GS, and I think my front and rear discs and pads need replacing. They are squealing terribly when driving high speed - 70/80mph. They wont squeal at low speeds i.e. 30/40/50mph.

Can someone recommend an online site where I should buy decent (but cheap) discs and pads. Can someone also recommend someone around E.London to fit them?

Thanks.

See the Breaks Internation Website given above. I used these guys, ordered over the phone as their website was unclear about which parts to order. They were extremely helpful and do next day delivery. A local garage charged me £60 to change all pads and front brakes - but cannot help you with place in East London I am afraid.
