hi all

i am totally stumped,my toyotts corolla estate is usually a very reliable car which has done plenty of mileage with no problems at all.but now we are having the really cold morning i cant get it started at all.i have waited for the coil light to go out and then start with a little accelaration which worked wen this first started but now it does nothing. i then leave it till early afternoon the car starts but struggles and has a stong smell coming fron the exhaust.

any advice would be gratefully recieved.

I'm not a specialist but it sounds to me as compression problem. It's easy to confirm. Take the car to any garage that has equipment for compression measuring. They will tell you how much it should be in each cylinder and how much your car shows. It might be the first step towards solving the problem.

It is your glow plugs need replacing they are not too expensive i had the exact same problem with a peugeot 406 and a new set of plugs cured it good luck
