Tns 200 - On The Blink!

My TNS 200 sat nav isn't working. When I put in a destination which is only a couple of streets away it's giving a distance of 89 miles! Also, I notice that the display says "GPS 0 Satellite" so I'm assuming it's not receiving any signal. The thin black wire at the back of the unit was broken; a friend fixed it as best he could - is this the reason it's not working?? Can anyone help?

The single black wire to the small plug in the back of the TNS unit is the antenna cable. If this is broken you will get no signal so this is most likely your problem. If the connection can't be remade you will have to replace the antenna which is horrendously expensive from Toyota but can be sourced quite reasonably elsewhere. I got one from an eBay shop for under £15 all in, delivered next day - try http://stores.ebay.co.uk/A-E-Trading-Ltd - you need one with a GT5 connector and long (3.5m) cable. The car will need some dismatling to remove and replace the old antenna, instructions can be found on the Toyota AIM site.
