Ipod Griffin Smartdeck Connector Problems

Hi all.

I'm having problems using a Griffin SmartDeck iPod tape cassette adaptor with my Avensis. I put the adaptor in and the tape sounds like it is fast forwarding, the iPod goes from Pause/Play/Pause/Play a few times and then the tape ejects.

Has anyone any experience of this?

Griffin support say:

"Many times there is a special procedure to use when using a cassette adapter (rather than a conventional music cassette). On my Chevy Trailblazer you need to press the cassette button for 5-seconds while the radio is off. The word "ready" will appear and then you can install the cassette. If you don't do this, then the adapter will be ejected after 2 or 3 seconds of play."

There appears to be no such feature on the Avensis. Does anyone know?

Never liked those cassette adaptors. Looks like the tape player just swallowed a mouse with a long tail. Not to mention all that wiring. Do you actually get digital sound out of it? :(

I'm using a £4.99 cassette from Maplin. The wire is looped behind the facia console and into the centre armrest. No wires dangling. Took just 5 minutes to put in place. The sound is excellent. Significantly better than a tape. The FM modulator I had previously was a total waste of money!!!

I think your Griffin must be faulty? Take it back.

The tape adapter doesn't give digital sound but should be better than the iTrip I currently have and cheaper than a proper built-in solution.

The SmartDock allows you to control the iPod via the tape controls, such as FF to go to next track etc.

I think I need to send it back and get a normal one!
