Start The Engine Without Audio/aircon Unit

I need to remove the Audio/Air Condition Control Unit because I need to find out what makes anoying rattle, something like "brzrzrzrzr" when car is stopped with engine working. It's realy anoying as every time I stop on the trafic light I hear that constant rattle. I could never find out where it is comming from because pressing and touching everyithing in the area noise is comming from, doesn't make a difference. Already did a test removing many plastics arround the place and that wood imitating strip, and turning the engine on without them but no help at all. The only two things left are Audio/Aircon Unit and Trip Computer Dissplay. Now I want to try Audio/Aircon unit beacuse it's possible that the noise is comming from inside the unit. It would be easy to test it beacuse it's simple to remove. But I need to remove it, I mean unplug it and take it away from the dash and start the engine to see if rattle is gone.

My big doubt is: may I start the engine without the unit plugged in? Am I going to ruin something? If it was just audio unit I wouldn't have this doubt.

I won't do anything until someone who knows if it could be done answers this thread.

Thanks for any help

First question. Have you taken it to the dealers for them to have a go at sorting?

Secondly, I can't see it causing a problem so long as you don't strain the wiring connections or allow any to come into contact with another that might cause a short

It's been to the dealer and "sorted" twice. If it's audio unit making noise they have to change it and you know how they are when car with warranty need new part.

It might be frustrating but I'd persevere with getting the dealer to sort it. If you pull the console apart and something breaks you'll probably end up paying for it yourself ("Sorry sir but since you took it apart you invalidated the warranty"). Just be firm about your expectations. Sounds like it's pretty obvious there's a noise there that shouldn't be.

If they're trying to claim it's normal get them to show you it's there on all of their demonstrators.
