4a-fe Engine Replacement/swap

Hey there, I am new here and I really don't know if a topic similar to mine has already been posted. If so, please re-direct me! If not, here is why I am posting. Ok, not too long ago I finally got the money and motivation that I needed to fix up my first car. A 1990 rolla dx all-trac with a 4afe power plant. The problem with it is that about six years ago, it took in the jacket of a falty spark plug and scared up/destroyed the engine. So now, I have already started preping the car for an jdm engine replacement. I was toying with the idea of going with a 4a-ge or 4a-gze (supercharged). But I found that cuz my rollas an all-trac, the 4a-fe is the only engine that can go in w/o any major modification and money. Now, I have found a couple places where 4a-fe(s) are running for about $450-$550, my question is do any of you know of or recommend a place for this exact purpose? I am looking at spending a total of about $750 on getting an engine and I would much rather not spend that much money (I'm just a poor college kid! haha)... Any suggestions are more than welcome! My second question is, once I get the ol rolla running again, do any of you know of any performance parts for the 4a-fe engine and the rolla in general? I sort of have a running bet with my buddy that says that I can't turn turn her into a sleeper (I think I can... his v-dub is 10hp slight to the rolla when its running, hehehe). But I would love a couple extra horses without the turbo charger as of this moment (don't have that much money)! I am a slight motor head and I do have some cojones to try different things, so I am totally open! lol Thanks and hopefully I'll be able to you guys I have a happy ending (if you know what I mean!).

Sup DX? Nice to meet you. Where in NM you at? I was born and raised there, and I still have tons of familia there. But I live in Nevada now.... Oh well.

As for your question, congrats on finding an all-trac!! The thing is, the 4a-fe was build all the way up 97 (my generation) but I'm not sure if your version is carb'd or fuel injected. I know the 93+ are FWD and are fuel injected. The thing about almost all 4a engines, is that they are all part of the same family, therefor almost all the engine parts are interchangeble (as in the 7a-gze b@stard engine) If you find another all trac 4a-fe, then you might be able to have it bored to accept the 7a head and stroke, and even might be able to modify the engine to accept the fuel injection.

Well, actually nothing much! haha, Just put in an order for a 4a-fe! I am not too far off of I-40, just west of Edgewood, so you can kinda see why I need all fours digging every now and then! Si, el mejor parte de mi familia es en Arizona, pero yo vivo aqui en Nuevo Mexico con mi padre y madre... hehe donno if that is too correct, should be with two years of college! haha ;^D Anyway, sorry for not being specific! My 4a all-trac is fuel injected (yay!!!). Now I am looking at getting the new/used power plant in about two weeks from now. But once I have that one in, I'll have a slightly-dead 4a-fe on my hands. Do you think that I should hang onto it, over-haul it and bore/stroke it to spec for a 7a head? I mean... whats the worst that can happen... lose a couple hundred bucks? Money is replaceable and I really like the idea of re-building and moding the dead engine! So that might be interesting to see what happens! Let me know what ya think! Right now, all I am looking at doing is getting the engine in, getting the rolla running again and maybe adding a intake system n strut bar for the added safety.
