Starting Problems On A 98 Avensis

My parents have a 98 Avensis 1.6, 4A-FE engine with over 100,000 miles.

Over the last week, a problem has been developing with starting the car. Sometimes when you twist the key in the ignition, nothing happens at all (no kick, nothing), and you have to try a couple of times. Usually it starts fine after 3 or 4 tries (used to be 1 or 2 a few days ago). Just afraid that the problem will get worse and the car won't start at all.

We'd greatly appreciate any help or advise on this problem of anyone knows what it could be.

Had this on my 99 1.8gs and it was the ignition switch, just behind the ignition barrel. Mr T fixed it for me at a cost of about £100 if I recall right.

However I'm sure there is a workshop submisson on this site with pictures that shows how to replace the part. Might be worth searching for that first. Hope this helps.
