Removing Radio Head Unit

I have recently bought my first RAV4 (2002 model), and would like to fit an after market CD changer to the factory fitted head unit.

I have removed the 4 chrome hexagon screws from the plastic surround, but nothing moves.

Before I start trying to pull parts off & risk damage, can someone please tell me best way to remove the head unit enough to connect the interface cables.

Any other tips would be helpful such as the best CD changer, best position to mount it, etc

Am I correct in thinking that the head unit in this model (2002 4 door) is the Fujitsu Ten.

Many Thanks

Welcome to the Forum :)

Have a look on my website http://www.spips.co.uk/rav4/radlive.htm this shows how i removed my radio.... assuming your surround looks like mine, i removed the 4 chrome screws/bolts and then used a 2inch wide piece of flat steel to prize the panel forward sufficient to then get my fingers behind it.

You will then see the 4 bolts that hold the head unit in place.

The wiring diagram, for the radio headunit / gps unit / cd changer (mine is a 6 disc model - not sure of the make though) is at the bottom of the same webpage linked above

Good Luck,

Phil.

Thanks for your help Phil. I have removed the head unit (easy when you know how) Your photo's were ideal.

On your diagram of the connectors, are the bottom 3 connectors at the Sat Nav & CD changer end of the cables?

yes they are looking from the back of the plugs as they are connected to the respective units
