Rear Speaker Setup

Recommended Posts

Hi there I have just recently got some Sony 6x9s for the back of the car, after not having any installed when the car was bought. Having a look at the small parcel shelf in the back and successfully taking the parcel shelf out out i find that there is no where it seems to put these 6x9s (or am i missing something?) in the metal grill bit. What do i do? do i have to create a fitting with mdf to replace the metal frame and then cover this over with felt or what? or am i missing something blindingly obvious? Please help. further info avail if needed.

Steve

p.s. i cannot find a single site at all about anyone else having the same problem.

I'm presuming this is a Saloon, as a hatch won't have any metalwork under the shelf. It's time for the jigsaw! You gotta cut holes in the metalwork AND the shelf, and clamp the Speakers firmly to the metalwork (not just the shelf) when you're building it up.

Remember that 6x9 is not a standard size used in Toyotas, they're mostly 5 1/4"s...

Oh, and if you're talking about a hatchback, I've no idea what metal bit you're talking about...

yeah it is the saloon sorry. GCSE metalwork was never my strong point. Would i need to bolt it in, instead of the screws that are provided? Will there be any distortion from the metal grill?

i thought i would have to mangle something!

there are five holes already in the metal......obviously dopnt use the middle one (cos there is only one). The outer ones seem too small (more round but only about 5 inch diameter). the next one in although bigger (square type) seem too close together in the middle. Which one do you recommend i try and adapt?

thanks

A lot depends on what gap there is between shelf and metalwork when fitted. If the shelf is flimsy and sits well above the tin, you might need to fab up a spacer out of MDF. Anyroad, you'll probably have to just cut a hole in the tin to match the speaker.

Hi steve

I had the very same problem, I As Idonn't like to make holes to my car, I put my own shelf behind the seats. If you want to see the job how is it going, go to the Toyota Family forum and look for a post named Avensis speaker size ( it would probably be in the 8th or 9th page by now) Then tell me if this is was helpfull.

Cheers
