Hi mate, if I remember rightly that little switch turns on a kind of sports mode which seperates the gear changes more giving more revs in between changes.

Its a bit like extending the power band in the selected gears... good for overtaking....bad for mpg

Good for towing too....believe Toyota took them off the later models, so not really that useful :unsure:
