Avensis With No Keys

Hi there,

I have just bought a 2001 Avensis which does not have any keys with it. According to Toyota I will have to buy a new ECU with my key at a cost of over £600 + VAT. I have heard it is possible to reset the ecu to accept a new master key. Does anyone know how its done?

Thanks

Steve

Hiya I have also heard that it is possible to reset the ECU as I remember one day at the garage when getting a MOT done on my avensis I was told about how this was done with another car and ecu. Good Luck.

AFAIK it can't be done. You will have to pay. Why did you buy the car without any keys? Not stolen is it?

It was stolen with the keys but recovered without them. I am buying a new key from Toyota but the replacing of the ECU seems a bit extreme.

They can do it without replacing the ECU. My local Toyota dealer (HW Moon in Wigan) said that he can source and program a key based on the chassis number.

Get thier number off Yell and see what they can do for you.

Hi ssc41,

I just bought Avensis T4 from 2006. It was also stolen and then recovered and there is only one key for the car but I can't start an engine using it. I think that it has not been programmed. This is not the master key.

Have you managed your problem? If so could you please let me know how to do it? I don't want to spend about £600 + VAT.

Thanks is advance.

Regards,

Paul

I have been told it is possible to reset the ECU so it thinks it is a new ecu but at £300 I think it is a bit expensive. If anyone can do it any cheaper please let me know.
