Air In Diesel System !

I own a 1987 Landcruiser LWB 4L diesel,HJ60 model with the 2H straight 6 engine.

Yesterday it started to missfire,then a few minutes later it cut out and wouldnt start,there was air in the system

Now when i used the primer pump there was diesel leaking out from around the piston that you pull up and down and the body of the primer its self.

Should this happen or is that where the air is leaking in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ps i'll try to post a photo of the primer if this will help.

Sounds like you might have a loose joint/bolt around the primer somewhere?
