Stuck In Park

Hi,

New on board, and 1st time requestor

My wife's '90 Camry has been hanging up in Park.

She can press the button on the quadrant to free it, but

I'd like to fix it so it'll work for her.

Haynes book shows a solenoid underneath the shift quadrant. If I R&R that, will the shifter shift?

Best Regards

Does it stick in any other gear??

My first guess (if the release button works) would be a faulty connection somewhere from the brake pedal to the transmission...

Should have been in the Toyota Family section really. Welcome though anyway! I'm already lost at the quadrant bit! A good percentage of us are European and American English can mix us up. Especially if you're a little slow like me!

My shifter has started sticking when shifting between 'N' and 'Drive'. Something to do with the whole can of coke I spilled on it!!!! :(

Sorry guys-

The quadrant is where the shift column goes into the floor.

Messrs. Haynes show a solenoid in there which one checks for continuity, etc. which led me to think that's the problem.

I know the pedal must be depressed to get the beast out of Park, so it would have to be the pedal/transmission

coneection.

As there are several inches of "partly cloudy" in eastern

Massachusetts with more coming, I'm driving it over to the local mechanic rather than go under it in this weather.

I'll also figure out how to get into the Toyota Family.

Thanks so much

Merry Christmas

Jim
