Liteace Cooling Problem

I have a liteace which has suddenly started loosing a bit of water. After a fair drive(15min+), the Temp gauge shows normal, the top radiator hose is hot , the bottom one is completely cold and there is coolant sprayed around the radiator. Could the radiator have got damaged due to pressure build up from a blocked thermostat? I was also wondering if it could be a faulty pump?

I took off the top hose connector housing to the motor expecting to find a thermostat in the housing , but it is not where one usually finds them. Can anyone help?
