Excessive Tyre Wear On Yaris

Recommended Posts

They might say there is no tracking problem but have you inspected your old tyres closely? You can get a depth gauge for a couple of quid. In my experience they seem to run off on the inner edges of the front tyres, despite garages saying the tracking is fine.

On a side note, every time I replace my front tyres I have to get the tracking adjusted (even though it was fine before) because as soon as new tyres go on, the steering wheel isn't straight ahead when driving straight ahead, if that makes sense.

I have found that my tyres wear 1mm thinner on the outer edges, not the inner edges! The car has now done 10,500 miles on the original tyres.

Two tyre specialists have checked the tracking and both have said that it is within limits.

hi all

after only 12000 klms i was informed by the service that outside walls of tyres were showimg signs of wear.

after 26000klms i had 4 brand new tyres all round replaced.

also a friend has the same car as me and he replaced all 5 tyres at under 30000 klms.

NOT TOO HAPPY INDEED.

"I was informed my tyres were showing signs of wear"

Drivers should check their tyres regularly.

Do you check tyre pressures monthly?

My Yaris was fitted with Continentals' when I got it! I got 11,000 miles out of them with even wear.

Now running on Kuhmo KH17's and have gotten another 10,000 on the clock and they are still at 6mm :)

They haven't made the drive any better or worse handling wise and do really well in the wet, they are noisy around 80mph but to save on cash I am not to bothered.

My Yaris is still on those Conti Eco Contact3s at 38/35psi - losing about 1mm a year, wear rate is totally flat across the face of the tyre (Take that all you "Ooh, 38psi will wear out yer middle prematurely!" people! :P).

I do tend to accelerate hard from the line on occasion and corner slightly faster than I should (Save momentum, save fuel! Right...?) but at my last service my fronts had worn the same as my rears :unsure:

These Eco Contacts are great tho' - Quiet, decent grip in the dry, stunningly good in the wet despite my worrying about their Eco tyreness, and weren't too expensive when I first got them too!

Cyker mine had premium contact 2 all round they are still on the back loosing about 2mm over 20k miles. Had the kuhmo for about 6 months all good so far.

My Aygo had Eco contact on and they barley moved in the 10k miles I did in it.
