Need Some Opinions (car Changing)

Right, i've had my heart set on a Mk2 Toyota MR2 for the past 6 months. I was gonna get the turbo but decided against it due to lack of experience, so i'm going for a GT T-Bar 1995 or later.

Now, i don't get my second years no claims and renewal till December but i don't particularly fancy starting to learn to drive a car thats known to be quite savage in the wet at the time of the year when its gonna be wet/icy alot. Therefore i'm considering selling my Yaris now and buying an MR2 and just paying the extra on the insurance up until the renewal date that way i can at least get some road experience in it in the dry first so i'm not being thrown straight into the deep end. Thoughts on this?

With the paying extra on the insurance, is it possible to swap from fully comp to third party mid term? I doubt i'll be able to afford the extra insurance on one if i can't. I paid 1200 fully comp on my Yaris, i did a quote on my insurance companies website and it'd be 1700 TPFT at this moment in time, Fully Comp would be 2900...

How old are you?.. that sounds really expensive for an n/a.

You will find the car feels totally different when going round corners and braking, not having the engine in the front makes a massive difference and it feels well balanced.

Some might say that the n/a isnt powerfull enough to be 'savage' but I have spun mine a few times on wet round a bouts and driving in the snow is a total joke!

Personally I wouldnt touch 3rd party insurance.

Have fun and keep us updated!

I'm 20 right now, 21 in December, Reason i'm considering 3rd party is because the car is not worth much to start with.

It might not be but parts for repair cost a fortune!!

Try morethan car insurance, they halved mine when I switched!

  • 2 weeks later...

If you can afford the insuarance, go for the turbo model.

I went from a 1.6 16v Megane (my first car) to a mr2 turbo. A big difference (yes I did crash it soon after getting it... lol)... but hey, it's so much fun.
